If you’ve been following me for a minute, you know that one of THE most common things that I will preach is the importance of a website strategy for your business.
I always say…
- …if your goal is to scale your business, you NEED a website strategy.
- …if your goal is to stop hustling so goddamn much in your business and have more of your time back, you NEED a website strategy.
- …if your goal is to bring in more clients that are aligned and SO fun to work with, you NEED a website strategy.
I say it over and over and over…but you might be wondering, “Alexa, what the fuck even IS a website strategy?” 🤔
Well, if you’re asking yourself this question, you have landed yourself in the RIGHT place, my friend. In this post, I am going to dig deep into what exactly a website strategy is and why ALL service providers need one if their goal is to grow their business to those $10k, $20k, $50k+ months and BEYOND.
After this post, you are going to not only know what a website strategy is, but you will have all the foundational pieces to put one together for your business so that you can scale, spend less time on your phone or laptop and more time spending time with your kiddos, heading to happy hour with your girls, or rewatching episodes of The Office with a giant plate of nachos and your favorite fuzzy socks on. (ahhh, a girl can dream right?)
Here’s what we’re going to touch on…
- So, what the fuck is a “website strategy” anyways?
- Crafting a strategic website that ACTUALLY attracts clients
- An example of an intentional website strategy
This is gonna be a GOOD one, so let’s get into it!
So, what the fuck is a “website strategy” anyways?
Listen…you probably heard the term “website strategy” and wondered what that means. It can seem kind of vague, right?
Well, let’s make it clear for you. In the most simple terms, a website strategy is basically the intentional planning and structuring of your website to meet specific business goals (e.g., bring in more leads, make more sales, grow your email list, etc.).
A website strategy is a plan that makes sure your site’s design, content, and features all work together to give your website visitors exactly what they need and guide them toward taking action.
It’s not…
- Having the most beautifully designed, aesthetically pleasing website
- Creating a website with lots of bells and whistles
- Something that you do once and never come back to again
Your website strategy is about more than just looks – it’s about the content you create, the messaging you’re sharing, the branding, ALL OF IT – and developing it in a way that helps people take a specific action.
When it comes down to it, a well-designed website strategy focuses on delivering meaningful content that…
- Sparks interest in your offers
- Highlights your knowledge
- Builds your authority and credibility
- Fosters trust with your audience
- Creates more leads and sales in your business
By making sure that all aspects of your site work together like a beautiful symphony, you create an environment where potential clients can easily recognize the value of your services—whether you’re selling done-for-you services, courses, intensives, WHATEVER—ultimately leading them to engage and take the next steps.
Crafting a strategic website that ACTUALLY attracts clients
When it comes to creating a website strategy, I fully believe that by taking your website visitors through an intentional customer journey on your website, you will prime them to want to take the next step and get their hands on your offer right NOW.
But in order to do this, there are a few essential elements that your website NEEDS to have so that your audience feels confident in choosing your services.
It comes down to two very important questions that you need answer in order to create a website strategy that truly works for you:
- What does my audience need to know and understand before they take the leap with me?
- How do I map out my website and it’s content so that I’m addressing those things that my audience needs to know?
Once you figure out those key things that people need to know in order to take the next step with you, then you can use some important sections and elements of your website to address those key things. These elements can include:
- Testimonials:
- Show off positive feedback from past clients to build TRUST
- Include specific results or transformations to enhance your credibility
- Service Descriptions:
- Clearly outline what services you offer so they know exactly HOW you can help them
- Highlight the benefits of your services (not just a list of features or deliverables – what can potential clients gain from every aspect of your services?)
- Case Studies:
- Provide in-depth examples of how your services have helped clients
- Use real data and real outcomes to show the type of success that potential clients can achieve when working with you
- Clear Calls to Action (CTAs):
- Place CLEAR and BOLD CTAs all throughout your website
- Use action-oriented language that encourages visitors to take a specific next step (e.g. “Book a Call” or “Download Your Free Guide”)
- About Page:
- Share your story, qualifications, and mission – but also touch on how these things will benefit your ideal client.
- Build a personal connection with your audience – it’s ok to show some personality because your vibes and energy can help you connect with aligned clients that vibe with you
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):
- Address common concerns or questions upfront so you’re not in the DMs answering the same questions over and over
- Reduce hesitation, overcome objections and provide clarity so they feel confident taking the next step
- Blog or Resource Section:
- Offer valuable content related to your services – this also helps TREMENDOUSLY with SEO so that your website gets found on Google!
- Position yourself as an authority and build trust – this is how people will start to see that YOU are the one for them
- Visuals and Design:
- Use high quality photos that reflect your brand and create a welcoming atmosphere
- Make sure that the design is user-friendly, easy to navigate and looks great on all devices
- Contact Information:
- Make it easy for potential clients to reach out and take the next step with you!
- Provide multiple contact options (email, social media, contact form).
I know that it may take some time to really sit and flesh out those important things your ideal client needs to hear in order to take the next step with you. And I see SO many business owners who just put their website together based on aesthetics or plug their photos into a website template instead of really sitting and thinking about these crucial touchpoints. When you don’t do this prepwork, you’re going to answer those KEY questions that your leads need to hear in order to take the next step with you. Instead, you’re just throwing shit together that looks good and hoping that people will understand what they need to know on their own instead of showing it to them straight up.
A clear website strategy keeps focus on the MOST impactful messages that will lead to your website visitors taking action.
And this is exactly what I do with my clients that sign up for Website in a Week. In this offer, I dig deep into your business’ specific goals, your brand and mission. An example of an intentional website strategy
Want an example? My client Ashli is a hormone replacement specialist that wanted to create a website for her business to help bring in more local clients to her practice. Boom – that’s the goal. So when creating her website, we had to ask, “what do people need to hear in order to book a consultation?”
To address this, we focused on:
- A section that lists common symptoms that someone could be experiencing that would benefit from hormone replacement therapy, so that people can instantly qualify themselves if they are experiencing similar negative symptoms
- Client testimonials and success stories on multiple pages that build trust and showcase real-life results
- A detailed FAQ section to answer common concerns and alleviate fears around hormone replacement therapy
- A comprehensive About section that highlights Ashli’s background and expertise, positioning her as a trusted authority in the field
- A clear outline of her process for getting started, making it easy for clients to understand the next steps
Ashli also invested in some amazing brand photos, focusing on the vibe she wanted to get across to her ideal client – think warm, inviting, helping her clients feel heard, none of those typical medical, sterile vibes that you get from a lot of other medical providers.
With her intentional branding and photos fleshed out, her clear website strategy and her business goals defined (BOOK CONSULTATIONS), we were able to create a beautiful, intentional website that helps bring more clients into her business every single day.
Want a website that’s bringing in BETTER clients? You need a website strategy, friend
Your website strategy is not just laying out where you want your photos to go and what fancy transitions you want to add in as people scroll down your page. It is a literal journey that you are intentionally taking people through when they land on your website.
Think Hansel and Gretel: instead of having people plop into a forest (your website) and try to wander through the trees and the brush and the bear poop to get to where they want to be (aka not having a strategy), you’re laying down breadcrumbs, guiding them step by step towards the gingerbread house (aka using your website strategy to guide your visitors to take the next step with you).
The goal here is to create a website that brings in more leads and converts more sales.
It’s not just:
- Not just about aesthetic design: While a visually appealing website is important, a strategy goes beyond looks. It’s about making sure that every design element serves a purpose and makes the user experience better, guiding visitors toward taking action.
- Not a collection of random features: Adding every trendy feature—like chatbots, animations, or pop-ups—without a clear goal can confuse your people. A successful website strategy focuses on the essential elements that align with your objectives and cater to what your audience needs to understand so they take the next step with you.
- Not a one-time effort: A website strategy isn’t something you set and forget like that weird rotisserie chicken infomercial (“SET IT and FORGET IT!” Anyone remember those commercials? No? Just me? Cool cool.). It requires ongoing attention and adaptation based on what people are doing on your website and your evolving business goals.
Your website needs to be deliberate and intentional. It needs to be clear and straightforward. When you do this, your website will perform so much better and you will see that in the number of leads and sales you’re bringing in.
